Activities

Ko Lanta is home to a rich diversity of animal and plant life . The Lanta National Marine Park archipelago comprise s over 70 small islands , many of which are uninhabited . The National Park ensures these islands remain truly unspoiled. Many islands nearby have fabulous underwater reef ecosystems, which are home to a huge diversity of marine life and colourful coral formations. Many islands boast magnificent powder-white sandy beaches and are well worth a visit.

Many people come to Ko Lanta to experience some of the world's best scuba diving . The Andaman Sea is home to the most diverse collection of sea-life in the world, providing superb diving and excellent underwater photography. The island also offers many other great activities and tours that are suitable for every member of the family , including snorkeling, hiking , caving, boat tours, fishing and kayaking or you can rent a Jeep or motorbike if you would like to explore the island by yourself.

Around Koh Lanta

Each of Ko Lanta's areas has it's own distinct character -- many people say it's like six different islands in one. Rent a jeep, some small motorbikes or take a tour, but make sure you explore the island. Click on the photo (left) for more photos & information.

Diving

The most reputation of Lanta is the dive sites. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang were rate from international dive magazine as world top ten diversity sites.

Hin Daeng or Red Rock is a huge pinnacle protrudes three meters above the surface. The east side is shallower with two long narrow ridges gentle slope in to the blueness, pleasing with lush red soft coral. The southern of pinnacle fast drop as the huge wall dotted with soft coral and sea fans.

Hin Muang or Purple Rock is just a few hundred meters away, the underwater rock is about 200 meters long and narrow round top with two side wall. The site is pleasing with lush purple soft coral insertion with large sea fans of red, white and orange. Both sites often found large schools of jack tuna, large size barracudas, gray reef sharks, huge needle flying fish and long toms and sometime huge whale shark and manta ray.

Koh Ha is a group of five tiny islands west side of Koh Lanta. The interesting is the series of underwater caves look like a cathedral. At Koh Ha Yai the caves are very complexity. The main cave is safe to enter; look back will see the lighting pipe passing through the hole of chamber is illusion. Penetration into the passage way at the rear of the main chamber is dangerous and it is not recommended.

The other sites are as Hin Bida , Shark Point and Ship Wrack which more near to Phi Phi island but easy access from Koh Lanta.

Snorkeling

One of the best is Ko Rok , 30 km south of Koh Lanta, the twin islands with magnificent beaches covered by green tropical forest. Offshore is a square mile of coral reef with colorful sea life. The water is transparency clear with over 30 meters sighting. For the one can't swim is also can enjoy and see underwater life from the boat.

On the island are also have a thousand year the Banyan tree jungle, folk of big size monitor lizards and a troop of shell crabs.

On Ko Lanta have one day tour named “ Four Island Trip” . This will lead you to Ko Cheuk and Ko Waen , snorkeling among colorful soft coral with a hundred of Nemo. The trip also let you visit Ko Ngai or Ko Kradan , one of the magnificent beaches with coral reef off shore. The highlight is at Koh Mook, the small island with hidden beach at the heart call “ Emerald Cave ” . You need to swim through the darkness passageway. It is gently wider and more illumination, awaiting the tip will understand what the emerald cave is. Out side the cave is tiny beach at the middle of chimney of limestone cliff at the heart of the island.

Worth to visit Ko Phi Phi once, if you never. She is still charming as ever with a few manificant beaches holizontal by verticle limestone cliffs, viking cave and famous Maya Bay. The sea here is more clear with over 30 meters depth sighting, the snorkeling available everywhere in many tiny bay around the island.

Kayaking

Along 30 kilometers East Coast of Ko lanta are very rich of Mangrove Forest ; here is the natural underwater life sanctuary under the conserve of Ko Lanta's National Park.

The small straits in between Ko Lanta Yai, Ko Lanta Noi and mainland; where the sea is clam which perfectly for canoeing. There are a dozen of small islands here named “Talabeng” with many sizes and shapes, offer the picturesque view of high limestone cliffs vertical with blue sea. Some have a hidden cave which can reach by canoe only.

Trekking

For who like to adventure, The jungle walk is at the middle of theisland head to Mai Kaew Cave ; with 3 kilometers walk along the small cannel up to the high hill. Smooth walk along the cannel will lead to tiny waterfall half way, further is another one kilometer up hill head to hidden cave on the top.

Easy exploring the jungle, the elephant trekking are available many spots on the island. Experience with huge creature by sit back on the ride altogether observed this fresh rain forest. The courses are available either by hours, half day and full day with lunch and dinner.
